I’m a vagabond of life. I walk and never know where I’ll end up. For now, I’m on my way to becoming a career academic. I’m getting a hard-won degree this Spring and am going on to grad school. In the most general sense, I want to study why people do what they do. I don’t much care for laboratories, so I seem to be at home in Cultural Studies. At one time I wanted to be a graphic designer (check out my portfolio), but that ended up being too limited. I’ve been a designer, a photographer, a podcaster, a newspaper editor, a sales clerk, and a writer.
I was born in Decatur, GA, grew up a country boy out in Covington, Ga (dirt roads!), and spent most of my childhood playing in the woods. Then I discovered books at around age seven and any chance I would not end up a complete geek was gone. Being an avid reader throughout, I also threw myself into arts and crafts, computers, and theater. During different periods in my life, because I refused to wear them or I’d lost them, I was without hearing aids (I’m hard of hearing). This taught me to be self-sufficient at the cost of social bonding. It took me years as a young adult to accumulate all the wonderful friends I have now.
On a more personal level, I’m a pretty rational person who cares deeply about doing the right thing and helping others. I love solving problems (big and small) and like to figure out how things work. I find most people fascinating if I spend enough time finding out more about them. I’m a vegetarian, why, because it fits me. I hope to be able to make a real difference one day by either working in public service (non-profits or government) or being a college professor.
I encourage you to explore the rest of this website and see what I’ve accomplished.
